I got an email today pointing out a few small corrections that were needed to two chapters in Psalms and two chapters in Josue.

The corrected files are for Psalms chapters 121 and 139 and Josue chapters 5 and 6.

Wow. After almost exactly two years, the complete work is now available. The Douay-Rheims Audio Bible brings this wonderful translation of God’s Word, which was first published in 1582 (the Douay-Rheims New Testament) into the 21st century. Can you imagine how the translators would react to the notion that their work would be distributed worldwide at nearly the speed of light over 430 years later, in audio form? I daresay they would never believe it!

This has been a long and arduous process. My love of God’s Word dictated that I be as accurate as possible with not only the pronunciation of the names and places, but also the “listenablity” of the finished work. If you have spent much time reading the Douay-Rheims version of the Bible, you know that the punctuation rules were much different in 1582 than they are today. Reading this amazing work out loud is much different than reading to yourself! The human voice imparts so much more than just stark words from the page. There are inflections and pacing that bring to life those words, and I tried to bring that to the reading of the Douay-Rheims Audio Bible.

My prayer is that this labor of love will be a real help in your walk with God.

I’m writing this on the day after Christmas. Yesterday was a great day here in the Webb household. Up early to open a few presents, then off to church for a very special Christmas service. After that, we drove to my oldest son’s house to share my first granddaughter’s very first Christmas.

During the weekend, amidst preparing for Christmas, I spent some time getting ready to unveil the Douay-Rheims Audio Book Store here at the website. All the files are uploaded to my server. Now it’s just a matter of getting the OK from the publisher to open the doors.

I’m excited about this new system, because you will be able to deal directly with me, the narrator, without anyone in the middle. Any feedback you have will come directly to me, and I’ll be able to have a dialog with you, the listener, for whom I spent all those hours recording this wonderful version of God’s Word.

We began this journey together on December 31, 2009. It’s been a long haul, but God has been gracious and He brought us through.

I am posting the last chapter I recorded here today. You might expect that Malachias, Chapter 4 would be the final recorded chapter, since it is the final non-deuterocanonical book in the Old Testament. However, I recorded that book last night, and saved Zacharias for today.

Therefore, I am posting the audio for Zacharias Chapter 14 here now, and will have a surprise for you a little bit later.

In the last two days, I have recorded Joel, Amos, Obadiah, Jonah, Michah, Nahum, Zephaniah, Haggai, and Malachi. Habakkuk was recorded a few months back.

So what remains? Just Zachariah! Fourteen more chapters, my friends, and the Douay-Rheims Audio Bible will be completely recorded.

Again, I thank you for your patience and prayers. May I ask for just a few more prayers? I woke up with a sore throat this morning, and have been doing everything I can think of throughout this day of recording to try to keep the virus from thriving. Please pray that it does not grow overnight as I sleep.

I am happy to report that I’m on track to complete the reading of the Old Testament portion of the Douay-Rheims Audio Bible tomorrow! This has been a two year project, and it will be great to know that it is complete.

The New Testament was finished in 2010, so this will “close the book” on the biggest project of my voiceover career.

I am thankful to God for His faithfulness in helping me to complete the task!

Once the reading is complete, there will be some tech stuff that has to happen in order to get the Old Testament ready for sale, but it should only be a few days.

My plan is to do a monthly update until all issues are corrected. Hopefully, there are no more omissions, but hey, nobody is perfect, and this is a huge project. I am the only person working on the recording, editing, encoding and submitting to the publisher, so errors are bound to happen.

Below is the first update. Please understand, the files I provide to the publisher are mp3 format, so that is what I am providing now. I believe that the publisher will be providing corrected files in the appropriate format for what you purchased. When I am provided those files, I’ll make them available here, too.

Rest assured, I am striving to provide as complete and accurate recording as possible, so when errors slip through, I want to correct them.

And now, back to the studio. Today, I begin recording Jeremias.

Good news!

While I am in the home stretch in the recording of the complete Douay-Rheims Audio Bible, the publisher has made the decision to make the completed sections available now!

In the meantime, I’m posting Isaias Chapter 53 for you here. This chapter is one of the best-known Old Testament prophesies of the coming Messiah.

Even though I haven’t posted anything here for several weeks, rest assured that we’re making good progress!

I’ve had my head down and my nose to the grindstone. Since my last post, I have completed Ecclesisticus, Baruch, 1 and 2 Maccabees, Lamentations, and forty-one chapters of Isaiah. (If you’re paying attention, you’ll notice that all the deuterocanonical books have now been done.)

The truth is that I’ve been pretty tired by the end of each day, and I sort of have to choose between posting a chapter here, and being a husband and dad. Since I have to be closed up in the studio all day long, by the time I’m through recording, I can’t wait to be with my family.

Go figure.

I’ll try to do better at keeping everyone in the loop regarding the progress of the project.

Just so you know, I am trying with all my might to get the Old Testament completed in time for you to have it in your hands (ears?) by Christmas.
