About
The Douay-Rheims Version
The Douay-Rheims Audio Bible is a reading of “The Holy Bible Douay-Rheims Version, With Challoner Revisions”.
Translated from the Latin Vulgate, the Douay-Rheims was the first English translation of the Bible, predating even the King James Version. The new testament was published in 1582. The Old Testament was published in two volumes: Genesis – Job in 1609, Psalms to 2 Machabees plus the apocrypha of the Clementine Vulgate in 1610.
The recording of this audio version of the Douay-Rheims was begun in December, 2009. The New Testament was completed in October, 2010. The Old Testament is still in production and should be completed by late June, 2011.
UPDATE: Because of various factors (primarily financial) the project is running late. Please know that every copy of the New Testament that is purchased from this website helps to fund the ongoing recording of the Old Testament. It would be a great help if you would spread the word that support is needed. Thanks!
The Narrator
Steve Webb is a professional voice over artist. He was commissioned by VANLIMO, LLC to do this reading as a result of his previous recording of the Bible for the “Lifespring! Family Bible“ podcast.
Host/creator of the world’s first Christian podcast not based on repurposed church sermons, “Lifespring!“, he is a committed believer in the Lord Jesus Christ.
This reading of the Douay-Rheims is more than just a “job” for Webb, it is a labor of love of God’s Word.
