I have often thought that it would be great if we had the music that went along with these songs. In this Psalm, there are a couple of repeating refrains. Wouldn’t it be great if we could sing along?

I read in the news about year or so ago that someone pursued the idea that the strange markings above the Hebrew characters were musical notes, and the result was a collection of tunes which were performed in concerts (in Hebrew) and even recordings.
Speaking of recordings, I’m thrilled that you are making so much progress! I’m looking at the possibility of finding an MP3 player that actually displays the lyrics files, although I’m happy just to listen to the audio files on my cheap little player (or on my Mac).
Well I guess that’s certainly possible, David. I love Gregorian chant, but have always sort of thought that the music that goes with the Psalms would sound more “Jewish”, similar to the Jewish folk music we hear today. That’s probably just my own fantasy, because I have never done a study on the roots of Jewish music. One thing is sure…we’ll find out in Heaven!

Russ, if you hear any more about this effort to put music to the Psalms, please let me know!
I read that gregorian chant has some possible roots in hebrew psalm singing.
